Discovering TAMIU

Texas A&M International University held their annual open-house event, Discover TAMIU, on March 19th. The event was group effort of many TAMIU organizations coming together to promote themselves to potential future students. Booths and tables with different representatives were stationed in several of the campus’ buildings where they had different information and activities for the guests. Contrary to Laredo’s sunny and hot days, this Saturday afternoon was overcast with a gray sky, cloudy atmosphere, and mild winds. Guests were seen wearing light jackets and sweaters. For a day about discovering the university, potential students did not have to endure a typical hot day with long walks under the sun while navigating through the many buildings. One could say it was Mother Nature...

Lanterns of Love Festival 5K Run/Walk

By Iris Vasquez Guerrero Tickets are on sale now for individuals and groups, for the Lanterns of Love Festival 5K Run/Walk. The event will be held in the TAMIU Student Center on April 9, 2016 from 7am to 2pm. Tickets are being sold for $10 pre-registration, and $15 onsite. (more…)

The Vagina Monologues: A Man’s View

For the second time, I saw The Vagina Monologues. It still was as informative and entertaining as the first. There was a larger turnout this time around. Most of those in attendance were women, but there were a handful of men. Some men were obligated by their girlfriends while some came to see what it was all about. Last year, I was the latter. Aramark’s Runaway Success

By Jose De Jesus Alvarado TAMIU students have a variety of foods to choose from when it comes to lunch hour. Anything from different types of salads all the way to a variety of grilled burgers, nobody is left out when it comes to the foods they like to eat. The greatest addition to the vast amounts of choices students had has been from the second major franchise to join Aramark, the all time favorite, Chick-Fil-A Express. (more…)

Student Hero Surprises at Construction Accident at TAMIU Rec. Site

This article originally appeared in the February 2016 print edition. Story and photos by I.M. Kero At 3:45 PM on the first Monday of February, the construction site, where workers are actively building the expansion to recreation center, experienced a shocking accident. A construction vehicle known as a lull was lifting some equipment when the weight of the equipment overcompensated the lull causing it to completely fall over on its side with the operator still in it. The operator had fallen several feet from his seat straight into the ground. (more…)

Long Live the Cowboy?

Cowboys, Generation X perservationists, began Texas’s individualistic culture based on agricultural functionality. Native Texans, that is, based their economics on the practice of farming, in which deligence is the state’s security.  An attitude for self reliance and a preference for minimal government intrusion is the result: “The primary function of government is to ensure the stability of a society so that individuals can pursue their own interests,” adds one author of Government and Politics of the Lone Star State.
