Growing up in the mountains of western New Mexico, Regents Professor Jerry Thompson often wondered why there were no visits from his grandparents and why his mother never spoke about the other side of the family. “It seemed like they did not exist,” Thompson recalled. A season of giving has come and gone once again. For most of us, the spirit of giving manifested itself in the form of loose change dropped in Salvation Army buckets on our way out of the mall, or through old clothes dropped off at local clothing drives. Maybe some of us felt extra generous and lent a hand to someone in need. Still, in the hustle and bustle of this modern age, it’s easy to forget the importance of giving rather than receiving.   Yet in the blur of life, there are individuals who devote themselves to giving selflessly to those around them. Pushing the Ph.D.

Dr. Ariadne Gonzalez received her Ph.D. over the summer while teaching courses for the Department of Psychology and Communication. Gonzalez first graduated from TAMIU with a Bachelor of Arts in communication.  She then received her master's, also in communication, from the University of Texas at San Antonio. Now, just this summer, she earned her Ph.D. in organizational communication from Texas A&M-College Station. (more…)
