The federal Drug Enforcement Agency scheduled a Drug Take Back Day for tomorrow at TAMIU.
DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is part of the agency’s commitment to keeping U.S. citizens safe and healthy, according to a Texas A&M International University announcement sent to the email accounts of students and faculty on Friday.
The event begins at 10 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m. Saturday, April 27, in the Student Center parking lot.
According to the announcement, “The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety and national security threat.”
The purpose of the event is for people to remove unneeded medications from their homes to help prevent medication misuse and possible addictions.
The announcement continued, “Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That’s dangerous and often tragic. That’s why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in—safely and anonymously—a record amount of prescription drugs.”
