More than 40 student organizations offered booths, as fundraising, during this year’s Halloween Fest. The annual event, presented by the Campus Activities Board and the Office of Student Orientation, Leadership, and Engagement, welcomed hundreds of costumed community members.

TAMIU hosted one of its largest community events, Halloween Fest, on Oct. 28. The event, also associated with the campuswide Wicked Wellness Week, took place at the Senator Judith Zaffirini Student Success Center Green, drawing a large crowd for an evening of festivities.

The free public event provided a family-friendly atmosphere where attendees could enjoy a variety of activities, food, music, a pumpkin patch, games, a costume contest and trick-or-treating for the spooky season.

Senior communication major Tiffany Luna said it was her first Halloween Fest in four years attending Texas A&M International University.

“It was fun,” Luna said. “There was plenty to participate in and to observe. I enjoyed the brief mental escape from my classes.”

One of the major highlights of the evening was the costume contest, where participants showcased their creativity. Prizes were awarded for the best costumes in various categories, allowing the community to embrace the Halloween spirit.

“The costumes were great,” Luna said. “There were some good ones out there. Darth Vader has to be my personal favorite of the night.”

Families were encouraged to bring children to the event and participate in booths that were handing out candy for trick-or-treaters. The booths were run by various student organizations; they also featured a range of carnival-style games and food.

“I liked that the event had activities, booths, food, and music,” junior communication major Priscilla Martinez said. “It was cool that I saw many people dressed up in their Halloween costumes.”

The Halloween Fest was part of TAMIU’s ongoing effort to engage with the community and offer exciting experiences beyond the classroom. The event attracted a large crowd, continuing its tradition as one of the University’s most popular community outreach events.
