In an update today, the campus is closed and classes are canceled for Wednesday and Thursday.
As a result of freezing temperatures and precipitation throughout the Laredo area, Texas A&M International University extends its late openings with a campus closure.
“Due to the unpredictability of power and water supplies for the area, classes have been canceled for Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 17 to 18,” University President Pablo Arenaz wrote in an email to all employees and students on Tuesday evening.
Throughout the Laredo region, students are experiencing power and internet outages due to the recent cold weather and Sunday night’s snow and freezing rain. Some have been without power for 24 hours or more, as of Tuesday morning.
“Employees should plan to work remotely, but should consider themselves on call,” the president concluded in the email.
Previously, TAMIU held a late opening policy on Monday and Tuesday.
“TAMIU community members are urged to monitor DustyALRT, the University’s emergency alert system, the University’s Uconnect portal, social media channels and local media for weather updates and additional notifications,” Arenaz wrote in his previous two emails.
