Olympic swimmer and twelve time Olympic medalist, Ryan Lochte, has been under tribulation since the 2016 Rio Olympics after lying to the world that he was robbed at gunpoint. The thirty-two year old swimmer also claimed the robber demanded money from him and other teammates that were with Lochte at the time.
Leading up to this incident, Lochte had been taking the Rio Olympics by storm along with his fellow teammates from the U.S. This careless behavior came at a time when the USA team as a whole had been doing extremely well, winning most of the gold medals across the board. This statement was before the world initially found out that the medalist was lying about the incident; he later stated that he exaggerated his initial story and apologized to the public.
“I want to apologize for my behavior last weekend, for not being more careful and candid in how I described the events of that early morning,” Lochte said in a public statement.
Despite the apology, the swimmer did not recount the incident and gave no further information on the exact reason why he lied or how the event occurred. The event was captured by the security cameras that were being used at the gas station. From this footage, it is immediately obvious that the Olympian’s story did not add up.
Several weeks later, Lochte is in the hot seat once again. The swimmer has been suspended for ten months, and will not be able to participate in the 2017 World Championships as a result of his behavior at this year’s Olympics. No statement has been released by Lochte or his team at this time. The team members that were with Lochte during the event did receive punishment as well, but not to the same extent as Lochte.
